Moving on...2018

The birthday plans continue to expand...

With the cruise due to depart on the 17th, I thought it would be nice to actually celebrate on Dad's actual birthday.

A quick email off to a small group of Dad's oldest friends and family, inviting them to join us for tea at Dad's favourite - Double Dragon Chinese Restaurant in Moama...all replied with a positive response, so we are now heading up to Echuca to celebrate together, before heading back to Melbourne for the cruise.

Last minute shopping, flights organised, menus for birthday dinner, concert tickets for our last night in Sydney etc etc and arrangements/adjustments have been made to the cruise, and we are all set now, with just 11 days till birthday and 13 days till we sail.

A bit more info about the cruise and the ports we stop in below:

Noumea

It won’t take long to find your French side in this city. See for yourself, mon ami. It’s got that Parisienne style, sophistication and joie de vivre, with a little sun, sand and smiles thrown in too. And the French cheer is totally infectious. Trust me, you’ll be shouting bonjour! to strangers before you know it.

Aside from ordering delicious croissants (in perfect French of course), there’s plenty of other great stuff to keep you busy. All you gotta do is choose which is more your style. Are you more in the mood for a day at the beach? Or would you rather the hustle and bustle of the city? Perhaps a bit of both?

Whatever you choose, this capital city is sure to please everyone’s tastes. Especially if your tastes happen to have a craving for something French.

Mare

Mare is the Pacific Islands at their best; think water so crystal clear blue it looks fake, so full of fish and turtles you'll want to snorkel forever, think untouched beauty, think a tropical paradise, think aaaahh, now I'm truly on holiday!

Divided into eight districts, MarĂ© offers something for everyone. Jagged basalt rocks are evidence of the island’s first volcanic activity, dark forests stretch to the cliffs’ edges and its central plane is scattered with grottos and natural pools where fish and turtles abound. Though shopping and dining options are scarce, MarĂ© encapsulates what it truly means to get away from the every day and relax while experiencing something new and inspiring. Its beaches are postcard worthy; its waters are always warm; and its views are unforgettable.

Isle of Pines

Also known as the ‘Jewel of the Pacific’. Ooh, sounds pretty. Sounds sparkly. Sounds pretty spot on. With its white talcum-like sands and crystal blue waters, you’ll totally see why the Isle of Pines earned this title. It really is a unique little gem.

The name Isle of Pines on the other hand obviously comes from the narrow pine trees planted all over the island. While the trees aren’t exactly built for climbing you can certainly catch some shade under their branches. And do you wanna hear something really cool? The island was actually named by Captain Cook yonks ago when he was sailing by one day. Interesting stuff.

And that’s the Isle of Pines in a nutshell. A beautiful, shiny, one-of-a-kind type of nutshell.
